Monthly Website Plan or One-Time Payment: Which to Choose?
By Ideovent Team. Published 2 Oct 2026.
A website on a monthly plan or bought outright? First-year costs side by side, who owns what, how changes work, and five questions to ask any provider.
There are two ways to pay for a business website. You can buy it outright: a fixed price, paid once, and the site is yours. Or you can take a monthly plan: a setup fee, then a monthly fee, and the provider builds, hosts and looks after the site for you.
Neither is always cheaper. Which one suits you depends on how much you want to spend up front, how often the site needs changing, and how much you care about owning the code. This guide puts real numbers on both, using our own prices from October 2026.
How a one-time website works
You agree a scope and a fixed price. With us you pay 50% in advance and 50% at launch, and the custom code is yours on the final payment. After launch you pay for hosting and your domain yourself, in your own name. You update the site yourself where it has editable areas, or pay someone to do it; our care plans for that start at ₹1,000 a month.
How a monthly website plan works
You pay a one-time setup fee, then a monthly fee for a fixed term. The provider builds your site on a ready design, puts in your logo, text and photos, hosts it, keeps it running and makes a set number of small changes each month.
Our two plans:
- Starter: ₹899/month + ₹2,999 one-time setup, on a 12-month plan. A website on one of our ready designs (up to 5 pages), a WhatsApp button, hosting and SSL, 2 content changes a month and support on WhatsApp.
- Growth: ₹1,999/month + ₹2,999 one-time setup, on a 12-month plan. Everything in Starter, plus a page for each treatment, course or service, a booking or enquiry form, a Hindi version and 5 content changes a month.
Your domain is registered in your name and paid by you to the registrar. The text, photos and logo you supply stay yours. The website itself, its design and code, is licensed to you while the plan runs, and you can buy it out: the buy-out price is written into your plan before you pay the setup fee.
The first year, side by side
| Starter plan | Growth plan | One-time website |
|---|
| To start | ₹3,898 (setup + first month) | ₹4,998 (setup + first month) | 50% of the fixed price |
| First year in total | ₹13,787 | ₹26,987 | ₹12,000 to ₹25,000, plus your hosting and domain |
| Hosting and SSL | Included | Included | Bought by you, in your name |
| Changes after launch | 2 a month, made by us | 5 a month, made by us | By you, or a care plan from ₹1,000 a month |
| Design | One of our ready designs | A ready design, with a page per service | Agreed in the written scope |
| Who owns the website | Licensed to you while the plan runs | Licensed to you while the plan runs | You, on the final payment |
| Your domain | In your name | In your name | In your name |
All figures are ours, as of October 2026. GST not applicable: we are not registered under GST, so these are the full amounts.
What about the second and third year?
Over three years, if the Starter plan carries on at today's price, it comes to ₹35,363 (₹2,999 + 36 × ₹899), with hosting and changes included, and the site is still licensed rather than owned. A one-time website costs ₹12,000 to ₹25,000 once, plus your own hosting and domain every year, and it is yours. Add our lowest care plan and three years of care alone comes to ₹36,000.
So neither option wins on price alone. You are really choosing two things: who does the upkeep, and whether you pay up front or as you go.
A monthly plan suits you if
- You would rather not pay ₹12,000 or more in one go.
- You do not want to deal with hosting, renewals or security certificates.
- Your fees, timings, notices or offers change most months.
- A ready design with your own logo, text and photos is enough for now.
A one-time website suits you if
- You want to own the site and its code outright.
- You need a custom design, or features a plan does not include.
- The site will rarely change, or someone on your team can update it.
- You already pay for hosting, or want to choose your own.
Five questions to ask any monthly website offer
Monthly offers are easy to compare badly, because the monthly figure is the smallest number on the page. Before you sign any plan, from us or from anyone else, get written answers to these:
- What is the setup fee, and how long is the term? A monthly price shown without them hides part of the cost. India's Central Consumer Protection Authority lists "drip pricing", where parts of a price are not revealed upfront, among 13 dark patterns in its 2023 guidelines.
- What does stopping early cost, if anything?
- What is the buy-out price if you want to keep the site?
- Is the domain registered in your name, on your own account? If the provider owns your domain, leaving can mean losing your address.
- What counts as a change? With us, a change is one small edit you send on WhatsApp: a new photo, a price or timing update, a new notice, a corrected line of text. A new page, a new section or a new feature is quoted first, and nothing is done until you agree.
Also ask what happens at the end of the term: whether the plan renews on its own, and at what price. Our answers to all of these are on our pricing page.
Questions people ask
Is a monthly website plan the same as renting a website?
Close. You pay to use a site that the provider hosts and maintains, while your domain and your content stay yours. On our plans you can also buy the site out and own it.
Can I move from a monthly plan to owning the site?
Yes, by buying it out. The buy-out price is written into your plan before you pay the setup fee, so you know it from the first day.
Can I cancel a monthly plan?
With us, you tell us on WhatsApp. The plan is for 12 months, and what stopping early costs, if anything, is written into your plan before you pay the setup fee. When a plan ends the website comes down unless you buy it out, and your domain, text and photos stay yours.
Which is better for a clinic, a school or a coaching institute?
If you have several treatments or courses and want enquiries through the site, both the Growth plan and a one-time multi-page website work. The deciding question is whether you would rather pay up front and own the site, or pay monthly and hand over the upkeep. For every other cost involved, read how much a website costs in India.
